What Do We Celebrate?
At St Andrews Day Nursery, we love celebrating different festivals and special days each month! As part of our safeguarding curriculum, we make sure to include an Oral Health Day and an Internet Safety Day every month.
We also welcome suggestions from parents and carers - If there's a special day you'd like us to celebrate, we'd like to hear about it! Each month, we'll send details of what we have exciting activities we have planned for these special days!
Nursery Closed!
The nursery is closed for the Easter Bank Holiday! We reopen on Tuesday 7th April.
Marcia's Birthday!
Today is Marcia’s birthday! We hope she has a fantastic day, and we cannot wait to celebrate with her!
World Health Day
We will be celebrating World Health Day by encouraging children to learn about staying healthy in fun and engaging ways. The children will take part in role play as doctors and dentists, exploring how to care for their bodies, teeth, and overall wellbeing. Through activities, discussions, and play, we will promote healthy habits such as handwashing, eating well, and staying active, helping children to develop an early understanding of looking after themselves
Passover
We will be learning about Passover by introducing children to its traditions and meaning in a simple and engaging way. The children will explore the story through age-appropriate activities, role play, and discussions, helping them to understand the importance of family, celebration, and remembering special traditions. We will also look at symbolic foods and encourage curiosity and respect for different cultures and beliefs.
Unicorn Day / Georgia's Birthday
We are celebrating Georgia’s birthday alongside Unicorn Day with a magical and joyful theme. The children will enjoy a fun and colourful environment filled with unicorns, rainbows, and birthday celebrations, helping to create a sense of excitement and wonder. This special day will encourage imagination, creativity, and shared happiness as we come together to celebrate Georgia in a fun and memorable way
National Siblings Day / National Pet Day
In our Early Years setting, we will be celebrating National Siblings Day and National Pet Day by exploring the importance of relationships, care, and kindness. The children will take part in discussions and activities about their families and pets, sharing their experiences and learning how to look after others. Through role play and creative activities, we will encourage children to develop empathy, responsibility, and an understanding of the special bonds we have with siblings and animals.
Space Day
In our Early Years setting, we will be celebrating Space Day by encouraging children to explore and learn about the wonders of space through imaginative play and creative activities. The children will take part in role play as astronauts, discovering planets, stars, and rockets while developing their curiosity about the world beyond Earth. Through hands-on experiences, storytelling, and discussions, we will inspire a sense of awe and excitement, supporting children’s learning about science, exploration, and the universe.
Vaisahki
We will be learning about Vaisakhi, a special Sikh festival that celebrates the harvest and the beginning of the Khalsa. The children will explore the celebration through stories, music, dancing, and creative activities, helping them to learn about different cultures and traditions. We will talk about the importance of community, sharing, and gratitude, encouraging children to respect and appreciate the diversity of celebrations around the world.
World Art Day
Today we celebrate creativity, imagination, and self-expression in all its wonderful forms. Art allows children to explore their ideas, experiment with colours and materials, and share their feelings in a fun and meaningful way. Whether painting, drawing, or making models, every child can be an artist and take pride in their creations. Let’s encourage children to be creative, try new things, and enjoy the joy that art brings!
Internet Safety
We help children understand how to stay safe online in a fun and age-appropriate way. We use stories such as Digi Duck, Smartie the Penguin and Chicken Clicking to support children in recognising how to be kind, keep their personal information private, and ask a trusted adult for help if something doesn’t feel right. These engaging characters help children to explore real-life situations and build their confidence in making safe choices when using technology.
World Heritage Day
On World Heritage Day, we celebrate the rich cultures, traditions and landmarks that make our world so special. This day helps children to learn about different countries, famous places and the importance of looking after our world for the future. Through stories, pictures and discussions, children can explore how people live around the world and begin to understand and respect different cultures. By learning about heritage, we help children to develop a sense of belonging and appreciation for the diversity around them.
Oral Health Day
On Oral Health Day, we help children to understand the importance of looking after their teeth and gums. Through fun activities and discussions, children learn how to brush their teeth properly, make healthy food choices, and visit the dentist regularly. We encourage good habits from an early age so children can develop confidence in caring for their own health. By promoting oral hygiene, we support children in staying healthy, happy, and ready to smile!
Earth Day
On Earth Day, we encourage children to learn about caring for our planet and understanding the world around them. Through activities such as planting, recycling and exploring nature, children begin to see how their actions can help protect the environment. We talk about the importance of looking after animals, saving energy and keeping our surroundings clean. By celebrating Earth Day, we support children in developing respect for nature and a sense of responsibility for the world they live in.
St George's Day
On St George’s Day, we help children to learn about English traditions, stories and celebrations. We explore the story of St George and the dragon in a fun and engaging way, encouraging children to use their imagination through role play, storytelling and creative activities. Children can also learn about symbols such as the St George’s flag and what it represents. By celebrating this day, we support children in developing an understanding of different cultures and traditions while building a sense of belonging.
World Penguin Day
On World Penguin Day, we help children to learn about penguins and the environments they live in. Through stories, pictures and activities, children explore how penguins survive in cold habitats and why it is important to look after our planet. We encourage curiosity about animals and discuss ways we can help protect wildlife and their homes. By celebrating World Penguin Day, we support children in developing an understanding of the natural world and caring for living things.
London Marathon
During our learning about the London Marathon, we encourage children to explore the importance of exercise, perseverance and staying healthy. Through discussions and activities, children learn how people take part in races and challenge themselves to achieve their goals. We talk about how exercise helps our bodies stay strong and how we can support and cheer others on. This helps children to understand teamwork, determination and the importance of keeping active in a fun and engaging way.
International Dance Day / Libby's 2 Years!
We are so proud to celebrate Libby’s 2-year anniversary alongside International Dance Day! 🎉 Libby has been a valued and caring member of the team, bringing energy, kindness and positivity every day. This special occasion gives us the chance to recognise her dedication and the wonderful relationships she has built with both children and colleagues. As we also celebrate dance, we encourage children to express themselves through movement, music and creativity—just as Libby inspires joy and confidence in all she does.
International Children's Book Day / Maundy Thursday - Celebrating Easter!
We will be celebrating International Children’s Book Day alongside Maundy Thursday and Easter with a range of exciting activities. Children are invited to take part in a fun dress-up day, enjoy a special Easter lunch, and join our Easter bonnet competition and parade. We will also be sharing stories in our hub, encouraging a love of books while celebrating together in a joyful and meaningful way.
April Fools Day
We will celebrate April Fools’ Day with light-hearted fun and laughter. The children will enjoy simple, friendly pranks, silly role play, and funny activities. All experiences will be kind and inclusive, helping children explore humour while being considerate of others.
Internet Safety Day
Children will begin learning about technology in a safe and age-appropriate way through stories, discussions and play as part of our safeguarding curriculum.
Oral Health Day
As part of our safeguarding curriculum, children will learn about keeping their teeth healthy through fun games, stories and role play.
Palm Sunday
Children will explore nature through creative art and outdoor play while learning about traditions linked to this special day, such as small world donkey play, and some palm leaf stamping. We’re also hoping to have a few extra surprises up our sleeve to make the day even more special — if we’re lucky!
Sherise's Birthday
We’re also excited to celebrate Sherise’s birthday! 🎂 We hope she has a wonderful day filled with happiness, laughter, and lots of special moments.
World Bear Day
We’ll go on bear hunts, enjoy teddy bear themed play and build dens, encouraging imagination, adventure and teamwork. We would love for everyone to bring in their teddy bears for a picnic, and we would also love to see everyone dressed as bears too!
Red Nose Day
This year we will be celebrating Red Nose Day - Winnie the Pooh themed day! The children will enjoy themed activities, creative play, baking and lots of fun inspired by Winnie the Pooh and friends.
We invite everyone to come dressed as Winnie the Pooh, their favourite character, or wearing something red to join in the fun!
We will also be fundraising for Comic Relief, helping support important causes and teaching the children about helping others. Donations are completely optional and appreciated.
Eid Al-Fitr
We will be celebrating Eid Al-Fitr through creative crafts, music, dancing and sensory play. We will be making our own samosas, and the children will also explore cultural traditions and enjoy hands-on activities to help them learn about this special celebration in a fun and meaningful way.
Global Recycling Day
The children will become little eco-heroes through junk modelling, recycling games and creative play, helping them learn about caring for our world in fun and meaningful ways.
Saint Patrick's Day
We’re looking forward to celebrating St Patrick’s Day with lots of green-themed fun! The children will enjoy green sensory play, creative crafts, planting activities and exciting outdoor treasure hunts inspired by Irish traditions. We invite everyone to come dressed in green to join in the celebrations and make the day extra special!
Celebrating Mother's Day
The children will create special cards, gifts and baked treats to celebrate the special people in their lives, helping them express care and appreciation.
National Plant A Flower Day
Our little gardeners will plant seeds, explore flowers and enjoy hands-on outdoor learning, helping them understand how things grow.
Celebrating International Women's Day
We’ll celebrate important people in the children’s lives through creative activities, stories and discussions that promote confidence, belonging and respect.
World Book Day
Children and staff are invited to dress up as their favourite storybook characters and dive into a day full of imagination and adventure! 📚✨
We’ll be bringing stories to life with brilliant activities set up both indoors and outdoors, creative play opportunities, and plenty of magical storytelling throughout the day. Our staff will be pulling out all the stops with their own fantastic costumes too — we can’t wait to see everyone’s transformations!
Holi!
A celebration full of colour and joy! The children will enjoy colour mixing, painting, sensory play and dancing, encouraging creativity and self-expression.
Lantern Festival + Payton's 10 Year Anniversary!
Children will explore light and dark, create lanterns, enjoy dragon and lion themed play, and take part in music, movement and glowing sensory experiences.
We are also proud to celebrate Payton’s 10-year anniversary at our setting, our wonderful Manager. Thank you, Payton, for your dedication, leadership, and the positive impact you’ve made on our nursery and families over the past decade. 💐
Celebrating St David's Day
We’ll be celebrating Welsh culture through bright yellow sensory play, daffodil crafts, music and movement, and exciting outdoor flower hunts and dancing.
International Polar Bear
We will be celebrating International Polar Bear Day by learning about polar bears and their icy habitats through stories, small-world play, and creative activities. Children will explore ideas around caring for animals and the environment in a fun, age-appropriate way, supporting curiosity and an early understanding of the natural world.
Celebrating Winter Olympics
Children will be celebrating the Winter Olympic Games through active play, teamwork games, and exploring different winter sports in a fun and age-appropriate way. Activities will encourage movement, turn-taking, and learning about countries and cultures from around the world.
Oral Health Day
As part of our monthly safeguarding curriculum, we will be celebrating Oral Health Day by teaching children the importance of looking after their teeth. Through stories, role play, songs, and hands-on activities, children will learn about tooth brushing, healthy food choices, and personal care, supporting good habits for lifelong wellbeing in line with NHS guidance.
Sherise's 1 Year
Today we are celebrating Sherise’s 1-year anniversary since returning to the nursery. Sherise has previously worked at the setting, and we are so pleased to have her back as part of our team. We would like to thank her for her continued dedication and the care she shows to our children and families.
Random Acts Of Kindness Day
We will be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day by encouraging children to share, help others, and show kindness in simple, meaningful ways. Through stories, role play, and kind actions throughout the day, children will learn how small acts can make a big difference, supporting positive relationships and emotional wellbeing in line with the values promoted by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.
Chinese New Year / Pancake Day
Children will learn about Chinese New Year through stories, music, movement, and creative activities, exploring themes such as family, celebrations, colours, animals, and good luck. We will encourage curiosity about different cultures and traditions in an inclusive and age-appropriate way.
For Pancake Day, children will enjoy pancakes at one mealtime, allowing them to experience this tradition simply and safely.
World Hippo Day
We will be celebrating World Hippo Day by learning about hippopotamuses and other animals through stories, small-world play, creative activities, and simple facts. Children will explore habitats, animal care, and conservation in a fun, age-appropriate way, supporting curiosity and an early understanding of the natural world.
Galantines and Palentines - Valentines Celebration!
We will be celebrating friendship and kindness with our Galentines and Palentines Day, focusing on caring for others, sharing, and being a good friend. Children will enjoy heart-themed crafts, cooperative games, stories about friendship, and opportunities to give kind messages to their friends in a fun and inclusive way.
Chantelle's 2 Years
Today we are celebrating Chantelle’s 2 years with us. We would like to thank her for her continued dedication, care and commitment to supporting our children and families.
International Day of Women and Girls in Science
We will be celebrating the United Nations International Day of Women and Girls in Science by encouraging curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving through simple, hands-on science activities. Children will learn that science is for everyone, while building confidence, curiosity, and a love of discovery.
Safer Internet Day
We will be taking part in UK Safer Internet Centre Safer Internet Day, which also links with our monthly curriculum focus on online safety. Through age-appropriate stories, discussions, and play-based activities, children will begin to learn about staying safe, asking for help, and making positive choices when using technology.
Celebrating Children's Mental Health Week!
We will be celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week with a calming preschool spa experience, mindfulness and breathing activities, sensory play, and quiet time. Using the story The Colour Monster, children will explore emotions through colour, movement, stories, and creative play, helping them build confidence, emotional awareness, and wellbeing in a nurturing environment.
