What Do We Celebrate?
At St Andrews Day Nursery, we love celebrating different festivals and special days each month! As part of our safeguarding curriculum, we make sure to include an Oral Health Day and an Internet Safety Day every month.
We also welcome suggestions from parents and carers - If there's a special day you'd like us to celebrate, we'd like to hear about it! Each month, we'll send details of what we have exciting activities we have planned for these special days!
Chinese New Year / Pancake Day
Children will learn about Chinese New Year through stories, music, movement, and creative activities, exploring themes such as family, celebrations, colours, animals, and good luck. We will encourage curiosity about different cultures and traditions in an inclusive and age-appropriate way.
For Pancake Day, children will enjoy pancakes at one mealtime, allowing them to experience this tradition simply and safely.
Random Acts Of Kindness Day
We will be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day by encouraging children to share, help others, and show kindness in simple, meaningful ways. Through stories, role play, and kind actions throughout the day, children will learn how small acts can make a big difference, supporting positive relationships and emotional wellbeing in line with the values promoted by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.
Sherise's 1 Year
Today we are celebrating Sherise’s 1-year anniversary since returning to the nursery. Sherise has previously worked at the setting, and we are so pleased to have her back as part of our team. We would like to thank her for her continued dedication and the care she shows to our children and families.
Oral Health Day
As part of our monthly safeguarding curriculum, we will be celebrating Oral Health Day by teaching children the importance of looking after their teeth. Through stories, role play, songs, and hands-on activities, children will learn about tooth brushing, healthy food choices, and personal care, supporting good habits for lifelong wellbeing in line with NHS guidance.
Celebrating Winter Olympics
Children will be celebrating the Winter Olympic Games through active play, teamwork games, and exploring different winter sports in a fun and age-appropriate way. Activities will encourage movement, turn-taking, and learning about countries and cultures from around the world.
International Polar Bear
We will be celebrating International Polar Bear Day by learning about polar bears and their icy habitats through stories, small-world play, and creative activities. Children will explore ideas around caring for animals and the environment in a fun, age-appropriate way, supporting curiosity and an early understanding of the natural world.
World Hippo Day
We will be celebrating World Hippo Day by learning about hippopotamuses and other animals through stories, small-world play, creative activities, and simple facts. Children will explore habitats, animal care, and conservation in a fun, age-appropriate way, supporting curiosity and an early understanding of the natural world.
Galantines and Palentines - Valentines Celebration!
We will be celebrating friendship and kindness with our Galentines and Palentines Day, focusing on caring for others, sharing, and being a good friend. Children will enjoy heart-themed crafts, cooperative games, stories about friendship, and opportunities to give kind messages to their friends in a fun and inclusive way.
Chantelle's 2 Years
Today we are celebrating Chantelle’s 2 years with us. We would like to thank her for her continued dedication, care and commitment to supporting our children and families.
International Day of Women and Girls in Science
We will be celebrating the United Nations International Day of Women and Girls in Science by encouraging curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving through simple, hands-on science activities. Children will learn that science is for everyone, while building confidence, curiosity, and a love of discovery.
Safer Internet Day
We will be taking part in UK Safer Internet Centre Safer Internet Day, which also links with our monthly curriculum focus on online safety. Through age-appropriate stories, discussions, and play-based activities, children will begin to learn about staying safe, asking for help, and making positive choices when using technology.
Celebrating Children's Mental Health Week!
We will be celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week with a calming preschool spa experience, mindfulness and breathing activities, sensory play, and quiet time. Using the story The Colour Monster, children will explore emotions through colour, movement, stories, and creative play, helping them build confidence, emotional awareness, and wellbeing in a nurturing environment.
NSPCC Number Day / National Story Telling Week
We will be celebrating NSPCC Number Day alongside National Storytelling Week with a fun dress-up day inspired by favourite book characters. Children will enjoy number-based games, stories, and creative activities that promote a love of reading, early maths skills, and learning through play, while helping to support an important children’s charity.
Wear Red Day - Celebrating Heart Heroes!
We will be taking part in Heart Heroes Wear Red Day by inviting children and staff to wear red and celebrate Heart Month while learning about kindness, caring for others, and supporting children with heart conditions. Heart Heroes is a UK charity that raises awareness and funds to support children living with heart conditions and their families through events, community support, and inclusive activities.
National Hedgehog Day / Imbolc (Saint Brigid's Day)
Children will explore early signs of spring, learn about hedgehogs and caring for wildlife, and enjoy creative, nature-based activities. We will also gently acknowledge Imbolc by focusing on themes of new beginnings, light, and kindness, in a child-friendly and inclusive way.
International Zebra Day
For International Zebra Day, children will explore learning about zebras through stories, creative activities and discussions. This will support children’s understanding of animals and their habitats while encouraging curiosity about the natural world. Activities will be age-appropriate and playful, helping children to develop a respect for wildlife and an interest in different animals.
National Puzzle Day
For National Puzzle Day, children will enjoy exploring a variety of puzzles and problem-solving activities. These experiences will support children’s thinking skills, concentration and perseverance, while also encouraging turn-taking and teamwork. Puzzle play helps children develop confidence as they learn to try new challenges and celebrate their achievements.
International Lego Day
On International LEGO Day, children will enjoy exploring construction and creativity through LEGO play. This will support the development of problem-solving skills, imagination and fine motor control as children design, build and work together. LEGO play also encourages communication, teamwork and perseverance, helping children to develop confidence and a love of learning through hands-on experiences.
Australia Day
For Australia Day, children will explore learning about Australia through age-appropriate stories, music and creative activities. This will support children’s understanding of different countries, cultures and traditions, while encouraging curiosity about the wider world. Activities will be inclusive, playful and designed to help children celebrate diversity and respect for others.
Jeanette's 3 Years / Big Garden Bird Watch / Burns Night
We will be celebrating a special milestone as Jeanette marks three years with us. We would like to thank her for her dedication, care and commitment to supporting our children and families. On this day, children will take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch, learning about local birds and how we can care for wildlife through simple observations and discussions. Alongside this, we will celebrate Burns Night with age-appropriate stories, music and creative activities inspired by Scottish culture.
Courtney's Birthday!
Today we are celebrating Courtney’s birthday. We hope she has a lovely day and thank her for the care and dedication she brings to the nursery.
Red Squirrel Appreciation Day / National Hug Day
On this special day, children will be learning about Red Squirrels and the importance of caring for wildlife, while also celebrating National Hug Day. Through stories, discussions and creative activities, children will explore kindness, empathy and looking after others, alongside learning about animals and their habitats. This day supports children’s emotional wellbeing as well as their understanding of the world around them.
Penguin Awareness Day
For Penguin Awareness Day, the children will explore learning about penguins through stories, songs and creative activities. This special day will support children’s curiosity about the natural world while encouraging discussions about different animals, their habitats and how we can care for wildlife. Activities will be age-appropriate, playful and designed to inspire a love of animals and the environment.
Winnie The Pooh Day - Teddy Bear's Picnic
To celebrate Winnie the Pooh Day, the children will enjoy a fun and imaginative Teddy Bear’s Picnic. This special day will support children’s communication, social skills and creativity through shared stories, role play and discussions about their favourite bears. Children will be invited to bring a teddy from home, helping to create a sense of comfort and belonging while encouraging friendships and joyful shared experiences.

Internet Safety Day
As part of our monthly safeguarding curriculum, we support children in learning how to stay safe in an increasingly digital world. For Internet Safety Day, children explore online safety in a fun, age-appropriate way using familiar resources such as Digi Duck, Chicken Clicking and Smartie the Penguin. These stories help children understand safe choices, the importance of talking to a trusted adult, and what to do if something online makes them feel unsure or worried.
Oral Health Day
As part of our safeguarding and wellbeing curriculum, we support children in developing positive oral health habits from an early age. Through age-appropriate discussions, stories and practical activities, children learn about the importance of brushing their teeth, making healthy food choices and visiting the dentist. These experiences help children understand how to look after their teeth and build routines that support their overall health and wellbeing.
National Bubble Bath Day
For National Bubble Bath Day, children will enjoy bubble-themed play and sensory activities in a fun and safe way. Through water play, bubbles and imaginative experiences, children will develop curiosity, communication and fine motor skills, while learning about routines that support personal care and wellbeing.
Epiphany
As part of our celebrations and learning about different festivals, children will be introduced to Epiphany in an age-appropriate way. Through simple stories, discussion and creative activities, children will learn about the meaning of Epiphany and explore themes of giving, kindness and celebration, supporting their understanding of the world and different traditions.
World Braille Day
For World Braille Day, children will be introduced to the idea that people communicate and read in different ways. Through sensory activities, stories and hands-on exploration, children will begin to understand inclusivity and accessibility, helping to promote respect, empathy and awareness of the diverse needs of others.
