What Do We Celebrate?
At St Andrews Day Nursery, we love celebrating different festivals and special days each month! As part of our safeguarding curriculum, we make sure to include an Oral Health Day and an Internet Safety Day every month.
We also welcome suggestions from parents and carers - If there's a special day you'd like us to celebrate, we'd like to hear about it! Each month, we'll send details of what we have exciting activities we have planned for these special days!
World Baking Day
Time to get mixing! The children will enjoy baking delicious treats such as biscuits and flapjacks, exploring textures, tastes, and working together 😊.
World Bee Day / National Numeracy Day
Buzzing with excitement! We will learn about the important role bees play in our world while exploring numbers through fun games, counting, and patterns 🌼.
International Tea Day
You’re invited to our teddy tea party! The children will enjoy a cosy and fun tea party experience, focusing on sharing, kindness, and social skills. Don’t forget to bring a favourite teddy!
Shavuot / Elmer Day
A colourful and meaningful day! We will explore Shavuot through stories and activities, while also celebrating Elmer the Elephant and the importance of being unique and proud of who we are 💛.
Nursery Closed - Bank Holiday
We are closed for the Bank Holiday! We reopen on Tuesday 26th May.
Africa Day
A vibrant day of music, rhythm, and creativity! The children will explore African culture through instruments, patterns, stories, and puzzles, celebrating diversity and the beauty of our world 🌿.
Eid Al-Adha
We will be learning about this special celebration through stories, crafts, and discussions about kindness, sharing, and helping others 💛.
Internet Safety
We will be learning how to stay safe online using fun and familiar characters like Digi Duck, Chicken Clicking, and Smartie the Penguin 🐥🐧. This important learning helps children understand how to stay safe in a simple and engaging way.
International Day Of Families
A lovely day all about celebrating families! The children will share who is special to them and take part in activities that promote love, belonging, and respect 💛.
WEAR IT GREEN DAY- Mental Health Awareness
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. We are encouraging all children and staff to wear green. We will be taking part in activities, to support wellbeing and understanding these emotions.
We will be greatful of any donations, that will be made to Mental Health Foundation to allow them to continue to support others.
Eurovision Song Contest
Lights, music, action! The children will step into the spotlight as they sing, dance, and perform in our very own mini theatre 🎶.
They will also get creative designing their own costumes and enjoying dough disco and bubbles—perfect for building confidence and having lots of fun!
Oral Health Day (Bright Bites) / Chantelle's Birthday / Olivia's 2 Year Anniversary!
We are having a very special visit from the charity Bright Bites! The children will learn all about keeping their teeth clean and healthy in a fun and engaging way.
We would love to see photos of your child brushing their teeth at home 🪥📸 to celebrate together!
We will also be celebrating Chantelle’s birthday 🎂 and Olivia’s 2-year anniversary 🎉.
International Nurses Day
We will be celebrating the amazing people who help care for us. The children will enjoy role playing in our hospital home corner and create thoughtful thank you cards to share with our local community 💌.
Europe Day
Passport ready! The children will “travel” across Europe through exciting role play, music, and creative activities. We will explore different countries, use puzzles and flags, and create our very own airport adventure 🧳.
VE Day
We will be celebrating peace and togetherness with our very own “street party” style day! The children will enjoy music, dancing, games, and creative activities, including making their own bunting and special keepsakes ❤️.
Cinco De Mayo
A bright and colourful celebration awaits! The children will explore Mexican culture through music, creative crafts, and sensory play. We will be making beautiful papel picado banners, paper fans, and enjoying vibrant rice play 🌈.
International Day of Firefighters / World Asthma Day
Get ready for an action-packed day! The children will explore the exciting world of firefighters through role play, obstacle courses, and “putting out fires” with spray bottles 💦.
We will also be learning about our bodies through fun breathing activities like bubbles and feathers. Don’t forget—children are invited to come dressed as firefighters, helpers, or in something red!
Nursery Closed - Bank Holiday
We are closed for the bank holiday! We reopen on Tuesday 5th May.
Vesak Day
We will be discovering Vesak Day, a beautiful celebration focused on kindness, peace, and helping others 💛. The children will create their own glowing lanterns and take part in calming, thoughtful activities that encourage caring for others.
We will also enjoy some lovely, gentle stories about Buddha, helping bring the celebration to life in a warm and meaningful way.
International Dance Day / Libby's 2 Years!
We are so proud to celebrate Libby’s 2-year anniversary alongside International Dance Day! 🎉 Libby has been a valued and caring member of the team, bringing energy, kindness and positivity every day. This special occasion gives us the chance to recognise her dedication and the wonderful relationships she has built with both children and colleagues. As we also celebrate dance, we encourage children to express themselves through movement, music and creativity—just as Libby inspires joy and confidence in all she does.
London Marathon
During our learning about the London Marathon, we encourage children to explore the importance of exercise, perseverance and staying healthy. Through discussions and activities, children learn how people take part in races and challenge themselves to achieve their goals. We talk about how exercise helps our bodies stay strong and how we can support and cheer others on. This helps children to understand teamwork, determination and the importance of keeping active in a fun and engaging way.
World Penguin Day
On World Penguin Day, we help children to learn about penguins and the environments they live in. Through stories, pictures and activities, children explore how penguins survive in cold habitats and why it is important to look after our planet. We encourage curiosity about animals and discuss ways we can help protect wildlife and their homes. By celebrating World Penguin Day, we support children in developing an understanding of the natural world and caring for living things.
St George's Day
On St George’s Day, we help children to learn about English traditions, stories and celebrations. We explore the story of St George and the dragon in a fun and engaging way, encouraging children to use their imagination through role play, storytelling and creative activities. Children can also learn about symbols such as the St George’s flag and what it represents. By celebrating this day, we support children in developing an understanding of different cultures and traditions while building a sense of belonging.
Earth Day
On Earth Day, we encourage children to learn about caring for our planet and understanding the world around them. Through activities such as planting, recycling and exploring nature, children begin to see how their actions can help protect the environment. We talk about the importance of looking after animals, saving energy and keeping our surroundings clean. By celebrating Earth Day, we support children in developing respect for nature and a sense of responsibility for the world they live in.
Oral Health Day
On Oral Health Day, we help children to understand the importance of looking after their teeth and gums. Through fun activities and discussions, children learn how to brush their teeth properly, make healthy food choices, and visit the dentist regularly. We encourage good habits from an early age so children can develop confidence in caring for their own health. By promoting oral hygiene, we support children in staying healthy, happy, and ready to smile!
World Heritage Day
On World Heritage Day, we celebrate the rich cultures, traditions and landmarks that make our world so special. This day helps children to learn about different countries, famous places and the importance of looking after our world for the future. Through stories, pictures and discussions, children can explore how people live around the world and begin to understand and respect different cultures. By learning about heritage, we help children to develop a sense of belonging and appreciation for the diversity around them.
Internet Safety
We help children understand how to stay safe online in a fun and age-appropriate way. We use stories such as Digi Duck, Smartie the Penguin and Chicken Clicking to support children in recognising how to be kind, keep their personal information private, and ask a trusted adult for help if something doesn’t feel right. These engaging characters help children to explore real-life situations and build their confidence in making safe choices when using technology.
World Art Day
Today we celebrate creativity, imagination, and self-expression in all its wonderful forms. Art allows children to explore their ideas, experiment with colours and materials, and share their feelings in a fun and meaningful way. Whether painting, drawing, or making models, every child can be an artist and take pride in their creations. Let’s encourage children to be creative, try new things, and enjoy the joy that art brings!
Vaisahki
We will be learning about Vaisakhi, a special Sikh festival that celebrates the harvest and the beginning of the Khalsa. The children will explore the celebration through stories, music, dancing, and creative activities, helping them to learn about different cultures and traditions. We will talk about the importance of community, sharing, and gratitude, encouraging children to respect and appreciate the diversity of celebrations around the world.
Space Day
In our Early Years setting, we will be celebrating Space Day by encouraging children to explore and learn about the wonders of space through imaginative play and creative activities. The children will take part in role play as astronauts, discovering planets, stars, and rockets while developing their curiosity about the world beyond Earth. Through hands-on experiences, storytelling, and discussions, we will inspire a sense of awe and excitement, supporting children’s learning about science, exploration, and the universe.
National Siblings Day / National Pet Day
In our Early Years setting, we will be celebrating National Siblings Day and National Pet Day by exploring the importance of relationships, care, and kindness. The children will take part in discussions and activities about their families and pets, sharing their experiences and learning how to look after others. Through role play and creative activities, we will encourage children to develop empathy, responsibility, and an understanding of the special bonds we have with siblings and animals.
Unicorn Day / Georgia's Birthday
We are celebrating Georgia’s birthday alongside Unicorn Day with a magical and joyful theme. The children will enjoy a fun and colourful environment filled with unicorns, rainbows, and birthday celebrations, helping to create a sense of excitement and wonder. This special day will encourage imagination, creativity, and shared happiness as we come together to celebrate Georgia in a fun and memorable way
Passover
We will be learning about Passover by introducing children to its traditions and meaning in a simple and engaging way. The children will explore the story through age-appropriate activities, role play, and discussions, helping them to understand the importance of family, celebration, and remembering special traditions. We will also look at symbolic foods and encourage curiosity and respect for different cultures and beliefs.
World Health Day
We will be celebrating World Health Day by encouraging children to learn about staying healthy in fun and engaging ways. The children will take part in role play as doctors and dentists, exploring how to care for their bodies, teeth, and overall wellbeing. Through activities, discussions, and play, we will promote healthy habits such as handwashing, eating well, and staying active, helping children to develop an early understanding of looking after themselves
Marcia's Birthday!
Today is Marcia’s birthday! We hope she has a fantastic day, and we cannot wait to celebrate with her!
Nursery Closed!
The nursery is closed for the Easter Bank Holiday! We reopen on Tuesday 7th April.
International Children's Book Day / Maundy Thursday - Celebrating Easter!
We will be celebrating International Children’s Book Day alongside Maundy Thursday and Easter with a range of exciting activities. Children are invited to take part in a fun dress-up day, enjoy a special Easter lunch, and join our Easter bonnet competition and parade. We will also be sharing stories in our hub, encouraging a love of books while celebrating together in a joyful and meaningful way.
April Fools Day
We will celebrate April Fools’ Day with light-hearted fun and laughter. The children will enjoy simple, friendly pranks, silly role play, and funny activities. All experiences will be kind and inclusive, helping children explore humour while being considerate of others.
